Permethrin % For Scabies

The esoteric anti-smoking law as an excuse for a happy 2011

Happy New Year 2011 for all regular readers or not.
You know, we are in the struggle for life a little bit better, doing our bit miserable against magical thinking, the supernatural, inconsistency, dishonesty, fraud, deception, the deceit, arrogance, inequality, racism, xenophobia, fascism, religion and everything else. Simply we emphasize esoteric matters because, admittedly, is kind and funny side of irrationality, but we ignore the most despicable face of the case.
To whom it may seem bitter, I'm sorry your bread and eat it. For me to do this is an exercise in consistency and, above all, an ethical duty. And as I said that, "if you do not like my principles ..." sorry, for now I have no other to offer.
Health.

Ap Biology Lab 6 Gel Electrophoresis

Elena Pérez Miguel Garcia obtained an outstanding Master's Report

The BS in Biology and Oceanography student of Masters courses offered by the University of Cádiz , Miguel García Muñoz, defended last December before the academic tribunal appointed for that purpose, his memory Master entitled Environmental characterization of seamounts in the Alboran Sea from the study of sediments and foraminiferal associations . This work has been awarded an OUTSTANDING , so congratulations to both its director and the doctors who have guided the research.

This initial work for scientific research has been performed within the Research Group Gemar , under the supervision of Dr Nieves López González and José Luis Rueda Ruiz. Attention is focused on the study of several sediment samples extracted from different environments, on seamounts that form the Bank of Djibouti. We performed a detailed characterization work sedimentation environments and identification of major groups of foraminifera were found in each environment.

The material has been found in oceanographic surveys that were conducted in the Project DEEPER , funded by the English Institute of Oceanography , and occurred on board the research vessel Rafael de Paula Navarro and Cornide de Saavedra. This is the first research to be done in the framework of this project aims at studying the sedimentation environments based on foraminifera. Their findings shed much light on the nature of which we are studying geohábitats in the Alboran Basin and that are relevant to establish conservation and protectionist policies of the marine environment best suited.

Today, Miguel García Muñoz is preparing a scientific publication which summarizes the most interesting findings of this scientific work. Those interested in his work you can connect to it through this website.

Marine Biodiversity in the Journal of Cadiz

How much biodiversity is in the Gulf of Cadiz ? To this question, scientists can not give a specific answer, or indeed, accurate. There have been some advances very substantial in various habitats and ecosystems, particularly those located in the coastal domain (inter-and subtidal) in the same way that we know enough about the species that live in the fishing grounds. However, this scientific information is quite biased because the method applied to obtain data. These data were obtained primarily demersal trawl gear (see photo attached) justified strategy for the operational context in which they have operated marine research campaigns that have provided the data.

The momentum that has been recently the Project INDEMARES , funded by the English Institute of Oceanography and the European Commission ( Project LIFE + ) and managed by the Biodiversity Foundation , the study of the Gulf of Cadiz, has helped increase our knowledge of particular habitats and the ecosystems that host related to the expulsion of hydrocarbon-laden fluids. The review of resource databases available on the IEO live and conduct further sampling benthic techniques have revealed the existence of a rich biodiversity that can determine a change in the management of applications being developed in some areas of the Gulf of Cadiz.
hoisting of trawl gear

The difficulties passing the fishing industry in the Gulf, both in the fisheries of bivalves (as the case of venus, almost daily news in Diario de Cádiz) , as in crustaceans, as well as in the tuna and related species, show strong stress that the area is subjected. Not only the extraction activity the cause of this distress, as are many other activities which, presumably, are bidding farewell to biological diversity in the area, with obvious risk of destruction critical habitat. Ocean noise generated by intense vessel traffic affects many species of mammals and sea turtles, numerous submarine cables, pipes and all kinds of structures deposited on the seabed are a threat to the habitats that are extremely sensitive to these activities ... etc, are, together, a real pressure on ecosystems that degrade the marine environment.

say at this stage of life that the marine environment and biodiversity are essential to the development of life on Earth, is obvious, however, should remember from time to time this sort of platitudes and meditate for a while the such actions or attitudes we can take, individually or collectively, to facilitate the protection of marine ecosystems and species that live in them. We therefore ask our social role in safeguarding the species that usually do not see, simply because they inhabit the sea floor, and that when we are above the market stalls or in the seafood. So do not think the trail of destruction they have left behind and that we help to produce if we become responsible consumers.

These issues are those discussed succinctly, the researcher Dr. Díaz-del-Rio Gemar group, in the pages of Journal Cádiz.

INQUA Congress XVIII

Since 1928, INQUA (International Union for Quaternary Research) promotes communication and collaboration in the study of the Quaternary. The current research fields of the INQUA are reflected in its five committees.
  • coastal and marine processes. Paleoclimate
  • Human and Biosphere
  • Stratigraphy and Chronology
  • Terrestrial Processes, Deposits and History
Once every four years around the world cuaternaristas cited in the INQUA Congress to share the results the latest research and develop their agendas for the coming years. In 2011, Congress will be held in Bern, the Swiss capital.

The research field of Coastal and Marine Processes , is more related to the Marine Sciences, and is broken down into the following sessions:
  1. Climate and Sea-Level Change During The last 140 ka in
  2. the Mediterranean
  3. landscapes and continental shelves Drowned During The last glacial cycles (IGCP526)
  4. From the Western Mediterranean to the Caspian Sea: A corridor of palaeoenvironmental change and human response DURING the last 30,000 years
  5. records of Late Quaternary coastal evolution
  6. Quaternary coastal records of rapid change (co-seismic uplift / subsidence, tsunamis and storm Impacts)
  7. jumps Sea-level: evidence from Quaternary proxy
records in the first two sessions involved in coordinating the English investigators, Dr. Teresa Bardají (UHA) and Dr. Francisco José Lobo Sánchez (IACT-CSIC), respectively.

IUCN convenes in Malaga experts on the Alboran Sea

The Friday December 10, 2010 was held in Malaga, a meeting of experts in the Alboran Sea convened by the IUCN. The purpose of the meeting was to finalize the final draft of marine areas could configure the network of marine protected areas, the main objective Medrad Project. The meeting was held at the headquarters that IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has for the Mediterranean, which is located in the Andalusian Technological Park (PTA).

The meeting attended, along with several university professors and researchers from the CSIC and partner organizations, the Dr. Victor Diaz-del-Rio English , who was able to submit a summary of the most interesting habitats studied by English Institute of Oceanography in the Alboran Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar. Geomorphological approach focused most of his presentation, but had occasion to discuss other ecological values \u200b\u200bthat have been studied in the past three years, under DEEPER Project. Figure you can see some of the areas proposed along the two areas that are being studied in INDEMARES (Summit Alborán Ridge and Seco de los Olivos).

Medrad Project (Network of Protected Areas in the Mediterranean) aims to promote the development of a network of sites which are most representative habitats protected in the Mediterranean. This initiative promoted from the IUCN, is supported by several Mediterranean partners among the riparian states are very different NGOs, foundations and organizations of varied nature. To achieve these objectives, the IUCN There are several groups of experts, scientists and technicians from different countries, whose mission is to provide and integrate relevant information on habitats, ecosystems and biodiversity, and on the uses and impacts suffered by the marine environment.

Project Meeting INDEMARES in the Biodiversity Foundation

On November 30 met at the headquarters of the Biodiversity Foundation, in a marathon session, the Administrative Committee, the Communication and Science, under the coodinación Ignacio Torres, Director of Studies and Projects of the FB and Director of the LIFE + INDEMARES. Attended by many representatives of institutions and NGOs participating in the project. Each they had the opportunity to explain the activities it had undertaken to date in each of the materials in the coming work.

The English Institute of Oceanography moved a significant representation in line with responsibility it has undertaken in this project that is responsible for six areas of study (Gulf of Cadiz, Banco de Galicia, Avilés Canyon , Canal de Menorca, Banco de la Concepción, Fuerteventura), comprising the Technical Advisor Eladio Santaella, researchers Dr. Francisco Sánchez and Víctor Díaz-del-Rio, along with the scientific manager José Luis Vargas (Photo attached) and the administrative manager Carmen Rocks. Drs Sanchez and Diaz-del-Rio presented the advances in scientific knowledge produced after the first oceanographic and laboratory studies of the wealth of scientific material collected in these expeditions.

The results are of great impact and now speak of the existence of habitats much more complex than had been speculated in the beginning, and new species unknown to science or work areas. In the Gulf of Cadiz, where he researches Gemar Group, creates a habitat is related to the expulsion of methane-laden fluids, located in one of the most productive fishing grounds Norway lobster available in the country. This fact highlights the complexity of the actions to be undertaken and the multifaceted interpretation of scientific data can be generated. The uses of the Gulf of Cadiz, in maritime traffic to the laying of cables or pipelines, as well as it has had in the past as a landfill site, highlights the multiple uses of an area in which ecosystems are still poorly studied and where biodiversity is becoming better known now, illustrating its richness and, sometimes, strangeness.

is envisioned to have completed the initial assessments by the end of 2012, although they can anticipate some results facilitate the environmental management of submarine areas that are important for Natura 2000.
