David Bailey Portrait Morcombe And Wise

Zero

all know that cetaceans face growing threats from the impacts caused by climate change effect to noise pollution and loss of habitat, among many others.

Despite being protected by the moratorium on commercial whaling since 1986, killing of whales remains a threat to species and populations is just starting to recover from the devastating effects of the whaling industry.

Only three nations seek to continue and expand whaling: Japan, Norway and Iceland. However, its economic power and influence have been arrested during the last decades of conservaciónacordes measures to the needs and interests related to cetaceans today.

As a result, the agency responsible for the conservation of whales worldwide, the International Whaling Commission, or IWC, is based on a written text in 1946 that is anachronistic and inefficient to ensure the proper conservation of whale species in this new century.

cetaceans Today more than ever need to have conservation measures that address the threats and challenges, including the maintenance of the moratorium and full respect for the whale sanctuaries.

In 2010 millions of people informed and active whaling stopped a proposal that would eliminate the moratorium and legitimate scientific whaling operations in the whale sanctuaries. This year we continue to work together and harder to move towards real reform of the IWC in order to adapt to present the views and interests of research, conservation and non-lethal use of cetaceans in the 21 st century.
